🥵 Tropic like it's hot!
Late to the Party 🎉 is about insights into real-world AI without the hype.
Hello internet,
coming in hot from the last leg of vacation in Florida! But there’s a lot of new faces in here, so let’s get a cheeky little vacation edition in before we’re back on full throttle next week! On to some machine learning!

My Current Obsession
I’m currently on vacation, so vacation is on my mind.
I took a trip to the Bahamas and then a boat to Florida, where I spent some time in Disney and enjoying the sun. It’s a lovely time, despite Florida not being a great place to be currently. I’m aware many people are cancelling their trips, but I was already on my way, and am trying to make the trip as safe as possible.
I have also updated pythondeadlin.es to include direct information for financial aid applications and sponsorship opportunities.
Thing I Like
The Sun Bum SPF 70 spray has been saving my skin out here. First time I’m not coming from a vacation completely burnt to a crisp. Although, in all honestly, I got some in my eye yesterday, and that was rough. But it even smells nice like coconut, so I’m happy to use it! Highly recommend it for your summer vacation!
Hot off the Press
I asked chatGPT to plan my vacation and it’s very impressive!
In Case You Missed It
I proposed to hold my ML reproducibility talk for euroScipy again. Let’s hope that’ll work out!
Machine Learning Insights
Last week I asked, How do you assign new customers to a segment having minimal initial data?:
I made a Tiktok about recommender systems! That’s probably the shortest intro you can get!
Question of the Week
- What is the F1-score, and when would you choose it over other metrics?
I’m actually at the end of my question bank here. Are you still interested in these? Let me know, and send me your questions you’d like others to tackle as well!
Tidbits from the Web
- This woman plays Elden Ring with “Mind Controlled Joystick”
- Hank Green has cancer…
