My Current Obsession
My SSI fellows update went really well! I had a lot of fun re-capping the last year of creating content around reproducibility in machine learning for science. In total, I created a tutorial called βIncrease citations, ease review & foster collaborationβ, which then morphed into the complete website ml.recipes. I co-created a workshop at PyData Global. And a ton of other things, like cracking a full year of watch time on Youtube. Good to look back on these things and remind myself that Iβm not just bumbling around all day!
Apropos bumbling! I am currently playing a new game where youβre a pirate on the high seas: Sea of Thieves. Lots of fun!
I have built a big utility function to connect PythonDeadlin.es and the Python Organisers repo. This can both import and export data in both directions. That way, I donβt feel as much like Iβm duplicating efforts and focusing on a pretty front-end with its own data truth.
On another neurodivergent note, I started getting my groceries delivered, and it is helping me so much with taking care of my base needs. If you can afford it, I absolutely recommend trying it out. Order a few ingredients for recipes and see how that works out for you. Truly a game-changer for me.
Finally, I have worked hard to add a sign-up sequence to this newsletter to welcome new subscribers. I think I will work on the referral programme next, to finally reward all of you who share and grow this newsletter.
Thing I Like
I feel silly writing about this, but I got a small ice plunge bath. So far, they have been fantastic for emotional regulation and just doing something challenging every day. The model I got and the similar one I linked arenβt fantastic. Itβs basically a tall insulated kiddy pool, and it tends to leak a bit. With that in mind, it is precisely what I want. I just want it outside and not anywhere in my apartment.
Hot off the Press
My article on using free cloud GPUs is making the rounds again!
Machine Learning Insights
Thanks, everyone, for the survey responses!
It looks like most people are pretty happy with the state of all segments, so Iβll keep on keeping on!
Data Stories
How much time did you spend on the important things in life?
A question I tend to ponder way too much.
And then there is this person that tracked and published their entire year with a half-hour accuracy.
This Twitter thread explains more about how to read this chart, and this Medium post explores the data deeper.
I love how all of this can be interpreted. You see some very regular sleep and work schedule, and you can see a few all-nighters. Some beautiful blocks of vacation time with friends and family.
Makes me want to track my days as well, but I realistically would forget, and it would possibly be incredibly dull.
